Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI), is one of the most
revolutionary developments in the field
of diagnostic imaging. Though MRI was
initially used primarily in neuro-imaging,
it is also used in orthopaedic,
haepatobiliary and cardio-vascular
imaging. MRI is excellent in evaluation
of joints and soft tissues. Angiography,
with or without contrast injection, is
possible by MRI for assessment of
intracranial and extracranial vessels,
thoracic and abdominal vessels, as well
as, peripheral vascular channels.
The EKO MRI
department was established in 1992 with
a state-of-the-art 1.0 Tesla Magnetom
Impact unit. In 2002, another unit was
installed due to rapidly growing demand
for this investigation. This 1.5 Tesla
MR unit is equipped with very advanced
MR techniques including Diffusion and
Perfusion Imaging, Spectroscopy,
Diffusion Tensor Imaging, Contrast
Enhanced MR Angiography, Functional MRI
and so on. In addition EKO uses Magnetic
Resonance Cholangio- pancreatography for
evaluation of the biliary tree and
pancreatic duct, and is preferred by
patients as it is non-invasive and
painless. In Neuro Imaging, EKO MRI is
by far the most accurate imaging
modality to detect early infarctions.
High-resolution images of the inner ear
structures give excellent detail of
normal anatomy, congenital anomalies and
pathological processes of the inner ear.
In most diagnostic dilemmas, EKO MRI can
extend a helping hand for correct
diagnosis.
